How Is Social Security Premium Calculated?

The Social Security Institution (SGK) premium is paid by both the employee and employer based on gross salary. The general rates are as follows:

  • Employee share: SGK premium 14% + Unemployment insurance 1% = 15%
  • Employer share: SGK premium 15.5% (rate with 5-point incentive applied) + Unemployment insurance 2% = ~17.5%

* These rates are general/approximate; they may vary by sector, incentives and current regulations. Consult your accountant for exact payroll calculations.

Frequently Asked Questions

The social security premium is shared and paid by both the employee and the employer. The employee's share is deducted from salary, while the employer's share is paid separately by the employer.
Some incentive programs (such as the 5-point discount) can reduce the employer's SGK share. Contact us to find out which incentives your business may qualify for.
